News has just broken that Osama Bin Laden is dead, presumably killed in some sort of attack a week or so ago, with his identity now being confirmed by DNA (Thank you Gil Grissom).

I just saw a picture on TV showing a group of young people outside the White House flourishing a U.S. flag and singing the Star Spangled Banner.

Shortly President Obama will speak on TV about this development.

There will be many huzzahs and self-congratulatory speeches and exclamations that we have been successful in our war on terror.

It is all bullshit. Do not get caught up in the faux patriotism and false pride and brash braggadocio. It is all bullshit.

If you assume that Bin Laden’s death is the direct result of our invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, comsider this—-at what price?

How many deaths are directly attributable to Osama Bin Laden and his minions? 3000 on 9/11, around 250 in some embassy bombings in Africa, the deaths from the first WTC attack and the bombing of The U.S.S. Cole. That’s perhaps 3500 Americans at most.

Yes there have been other attacks by his followers elsewhere in the world and maybe another few thousand have died. Those lives were significant, if not in number, of course in what those people meant to their individual families, their friends, and those they worked with.

Symbolically they are significant due to how they affected our nation. The horrors of 9/11 will remain in the minds of most of us our remaining days.

But in pursuit of this murderer, we ourselves have killed many times the number of people he did. From over 6000 troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to the hundreds of thousands of innocent men women and children perishing from our bombs and mortar fire and other methods of semi-mass destruction.

Not only that but we have maimed about 30,000 of our fine young men and women who we sent off to fight a needless war.

As we battle at home over how much how government spends, we seem to neglect to mention the over $1 trillion spent to accomplish this.

So what is the greater sin? The several thousand deaths caused by Bin Laden, or the hundreds of thousand of deaths caused by American efforts to find and stymie him?

And for what purpose? If killing Bin Laden means we can now rest easy because his terror network has been defeated, why have we occupied ourselves with committing all manner of indignities and abuses against members of a religion that we proclaim is extremist in nature and determined to destroy us?

Hasn’t all our hate and irrationality then been shown for what it truly is?

And if the death of Bin Laden does nothing to end this much ballyhooed threat, why the hell are we celebrating?

Terrorism in this world was long practiced and well-established long before Osama rose from his shithole to take the lead of a certain segment of madmen. He does not own the patent on terror.

With his death I assure you we will still experience uprisings of misguided, blindly idealistic mutants who think nothing of spreading death and destruction to further their twisted sense of entitlement.

President Obama just exclaimed, “Justice has been done”.No, Mr. President, it has not. Justice does not entail murdering many times the number of victims of a terrorist or any other criminal and bringing shame, acknowledged or not, on an entire nation for its wrong-headed response to criminal acts. This may be revenge, but it is certainly not justice.

Odd that this announcement comes on the anniversary of “Mission Accomplished”. Not true then—not true now.

Hubris is ephemeral. This, too, shall pass.

What kind of costume would Bush have worn if he would have got Osama? He wore a flight suit with a cod piece for his mission accomplished photo op on a air craft carrier turned away from the San Diego Harbor. Who knows maybe a Darth Vader variation.

My comment on Peter King and the ground zero mosque is simply this. King is a ass hat. A wanna be Joe McCarty stoking up fear with out any substance or proof.
Damn you have Fox news ginning up hate 24/7 against muslims and rappers like Common.

Please give me your thoughts.
