An open letter.

President Barack Obama

1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Washington, D.C.

Dear President Obama,

With all due respect for your office, have you gone apeshit mad?

You voted against and campaigned against George W. Bush’s Not So Excellent Asian Adventures.

You campaigned against George W. Bush’s use of extraordinary rendition to capture those with suspected ties to terrorism.

You campaigned against the use of torture to try to extract useful information from suspected terrorists.

You campaigned against the abomination of the detention of suspected terrorists at Guantanamo.

You campaigned on the premise that you would lead America’s foreign policy actions away from what many termed the cowboy gunslinger attitude of George W. Bush.

Here it is slightly more than two years after you assumed office, and what do we have?

Yes you have pared down the number of troops we have in Iraq, but essentially that same number was added to those in Afghanistan.

You have promised to nearly end our presence in Iraq by the end of 2011, but what does that mean? It seemingly does not mean all our troops will be pulled out, thus still exposing them to lethal danger when we never should have invaded in the first place.

Projections by our military leaders indicate to accomplish our “mission” in Afghanistan, we may need to remain there for up to ten more years.

Has the situation there substantially improved since I wrote this?

I doubt it, so how can further actions there be justified?

Pvt. Bradley Manning is being detained on suspicions he leaked the information about our diplomacy that Wikileaks published last year. There are allegations he is not being treated as prisoners should be treated, kept naked with lights on 24 hours a day and not afforded basic rights.

There are still about 172 prisoners at Guantanamo, some for 8 or 9 years, who have still not been charged with crimes.

If they are terrorists that simply means they are CRIMINALS. Charge them and bring them to trial. Actually, let them go. No other prisoners in America are permitted to be held that long without proper court hearings. A little piece of paper called the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION, says that they should go free due to this egregiously illegal treatment.

Re-read this if not convinced:

President Obama, these facts bother me. Based on your senate experience, your 2008 campaign promises, and other statements you have made I supported your candidacy, voted for you, and have defended you since your ignauguration. But now I believe I have been betrayed.

Your continuation of the Bush policies as well as this new adventure in Libya are offensive to the principles of this nation and the aura of moral superiority that we claim. Your countenance of these measures is entirely at odds with your earlier public stands.

I can only conclude you have gone mad, apeshit mad. If I had wanted another term in office for George W. Bush I would have promoted the passage of an amendment removing the two term limit on the Presidency.

Insanity has often been defined as repeating the same act over and over, knowing it will never work or turn out good.

Your analysis is perfectly correct from my point of view. I too have been an Obama fan for several years but find that many of his recent actions point to a betrail of his stated principles. His willingness to constantly compromise and cut deals blurrs the line between political reality and a lack political guts.

The only saving grace is that he’s still better than McCain would have been.

    Obama has lost his mind.

Please give me your thoughts.
